EMBRACING YOUNG PEOPLE’S CURIOSITY

Update from the Principal

While teaching can be challenging and exhausting, it is also tremendously rewarding – particularly when you consider the phenomenal power that we have as teachers to influence and change the lives of our students.

World Teacher’s Day acknowledges and celebrates the amazing work our teachers do and the passion with which they do it. Today is the one day of the year when we acknowledge just how much we appreciate every single one of them. Collectively and individually our teachers make ABHS the best place ever for our young people. And while they may not appreciate it right now, we hope they will down the track.

The theme for World Teacher’s Day this year was “Hats off to teachers” and as a special treat, our teaching staff were invited to enjoy a hot drink and cupcake during break time.

We hope you enjoy the photos shared below.

Year 8 Global Perspectives: Vikings

This term, 8BA and 8BB have been studying Vikings as part of their History unit. Students learned about how the Vikings lived in longhouses as well as other interesting details about their living conditions.

To show what they learned, the class were given the task of designing and creating their own longhouses. Some students chose to make theirs digitally, while others sourced materials to make their own physical house. Each house needed to feature as many true characteristics of Viking longhouses.

The students enjoyed the process of making their houses, afterwards voting for their favourite. The winners were Alexander G, Sarah D, and Nyah B. Well done to these students!

Stage 1 Politics, Power and People

Last week the Stage 1 Politics, Power and People class visited the State Library to look at the Centre for Democracy and the Mortlock Wing. The goal of the trip was to investigate some of the historical artifacts that were involved in South Australia’s political past, including some pictures of the women involved in the suffrage movement.

Futures Ready: New school-based apprentices

Congratulations to Year 11 students, Thomas B and Angus L, who have both recently been signed up as school-based apprentices as part of their Flexible Industry Pathways.

Angus L (Yr 11)
Thomas B (Yr 11)

Both students entered Electrical Industry Flexible Industry Pathways at the beginning of Year 11 undertaking the Certificate II in Electrotechnology Career Start with PEER. With this grounding the students pursued potential employers and now have the next step in their SACE and the first step in their career lined up.

As school-based apprentices, students balance paid employment, trade school and subjects to achieve their SACE and get a head start in their careers. Students can begin a Flexible Industry Pathway as part of their senior school studies in defined industry areas.

Further information on Flexible Industry Pathways can be found on the ABHS and Student Pathways websites.
